“Equation”

from the ABC set Coffee Spoons.

Her hair hikes his hand,
crisscrossing the zodiac lines –
their stroll is spontaneous and unplanned,
so unlike the Libra ovals of this world
where even a mote follows a course
and every speck is aligned
as they stroll the shores.

The biomechanical world ticks and tocks
and it presses its many buttons,
whilst they share cheesy jokes
that still make them laugh –
there’s no equation for that;
no algebra, no grids, no fractions.
No zodiac-choreographed performance act.

There is no secret
to why their hands fit just right
or to why, when and how they have met.
There’s no science to why their lips lock so tight,
nor is there one particular spell
that magically enchanted
their first seaside stroll...

Glad to see you back Nathan! I love this - it's so true ;)

My favourite lines;

'Her hair hikes his hand,
crisscrossing the zodiac lines –'

and

'There is no secret
to why their hands fit just right'

Excellent poem!

The rhyme structure is very appealing. Very nice. I particularly like

"where even a mote follows a course
and every speck is aligned
as they stroll the shores."

Lovely poem Nathan; natural and spontaneous, as is love - it needs no definition and yet you define it so well. Ahh, I remember it well ;). Very enjoyable!

Yes lovely, magic, young love, innocence

&&

We strolled through fields all wet with rain
And back along the lane again
There in the sunshine
In the sweet summertime
The way that young lovers do

I kissed you on the lips once more
And we said goodbye just adoring the night-time
Yeah, that's the right time
To feel the way that young lovers do

Then we sat on our own star and dreamed
of the way that we were
and the way that we wanted to be
Then we sat on our own star
and dreamed of the way that I was for you
and you were for me
And then we danced the night away
And turned to each other, say,
'I love you, I love you'
The way that young lovers do
