Days Like These

from the ABC set Poems The Cat Brought In

Days Like These by Neil McCall

Days like these,
tarnished and windblown,
wasps' Last Supper in the bramble bush,
donkeys reined in for the season
as the swallows head over the horizon.

Chrysanthemum days
full of alternatives;
landscapes gives way to portrait,
stories and short poets
swarm in warm suburban bars.

New school shoes
are glossed like conkers,
goths and casserole recipes revived
and you, delicately wrapped,
are selecting a scarf.
