Dodo

from the ABC set Poems The Cat Brought In

Dodo by Neil McCall

By his own admission, he preferred little girls,
Carrying trinkets to charm them
On long train journeys;
Treated them to boat rides
And pinned up their skirts
To allow them to paddle in the sea.
He took photographs.

He never married,
Hung around church folk
Especially those with young daughters.
It is recorded that he
"Took great pains in their entertainment
By weaving them into his lurid fantasies.
Some believed he took drugs.

Fortunately he lived in more enlightened times,
So, instead of being strung up,
He was published.
