In the Red Room

from the ABC set Poetry

Sleep now,
After we've been moving
Through the sinister fairy light
Across one another's flank
Chest to breast
Face to mouth
While time tipped up-side-down
And out across my tongue,
There's more to come.

But sleep now,
Up against me in this unfamiliar room
Where you feel new too,
My finger's print flowering
On your shoulder's edge,
A draft of sharp night air
Slinks over the unmade, slovenly bed.
