Chapter 30
Frank hit the steering wheel with both hands,
"'e just don't get it Ray, 'e don't get it.
The barrel-chested man in the passenger seat shrugged,
"You can see his point Frank, 'e's pretty much legit, 'e's gotta enough and 'e don't need the stress.
"It aint just that, it's the way 'e talks to me, like I'm a mug. Besides fuck him 'avin' enough, what about me? What about what I want?
Ray looked down at his feet.
Turning the key in the ignition Frank pulled the Range Rover out into the traffic.
As they drove away from the Riverside Ray looked over,
"So what now?
"What do you mean what now? I'm carryin' on mate, I'll show that soppy old¦.
Stunned, Ray's brow creased,
"You mad? You can't carry on at the moment it's too 'ot.
Pulling a cigarette from the packet with his teeth Frank offered the pack to Ray who shook his head,
"Too 'ot? Nobody's lookin' at me Ray, now's the time, he took his eyes from the road for a second, "I've shifted plenty this mornin'. Years I watched while others made a mint out the drug game, and I've worked hard to get a nook there. Aint no way I'm stoppin' now.
Ray shook his head,
"I don't mean stop altogether, just calm it down for a while.
Blowing out a lungful of smoke Frank shook his head,
"No chance, now's the best time. There's a fortune down on that Riverside.
"What about the filth, they're onto you.
Tutting Frank sneered,
"Fuck the filth, they won't 'ave me, besides the old man, no matter 'ow pissed off 'e was, would sort somethin' out.
Ray looked unconvinced,
"Okay then, what about Jarvey?
Frank's eyes narrowed,
"Fuckin' Jarvey, don't you worry about him.
His face contorting in rage he continued,
"Which is another thing, the old man was praisin' up Brad and Charlene while muggin' me off. Brad, pah, toss-pot queer wouldn't 'ave made it anywhere else than the poncy city anyway, and golden girl Charlene, wonder 'ow the old man would feel if 'e knew 'is precious daughter was still rumpin' that coon. Fuckin' junkie slut.
The phone at his side started ringing and he snatched it up,
"Yeah?
"Course it is, what's up?
"Already.
"Yeah yeah I 'eard. You got all the money yeah?
"Good, good. Listen I've gotta couple of things I gotta take care of so I'll ring you in a little bit alright.
Putting the phone down he looked over,
"See, money to be made and plenty of it.
Ray didn't look so confident,
"Where you goin' now?
"Sort out some more, you comin'?
"Nah, I gotta make sure everythin's sweet for tonight.
Frank looked disappointed,
"Alright then, I'll drop you back.
As they pulled up outside the pub Frank put his hand on Ray's arm,
"Not a word to the old man.
Ray looked insulted,
"Course not.
Frank nodded,
"I didn't think so, but you never know.
"You stay alert.
Frank nodded,
"Course, see you later.
Watching the big man enter the pub Frank picked up the phone again and punched in a number.
"Yeah it's me, Frank.
"Yeah sorted. Is it alright to come over?
"Another 'alf.
"Sweet see you then.
Looking at the pub he muttered,
"Loser, I'll show 'im who's a loser.
