Chapter 31
As Jarvey pulled up outside a small sports shop the news came on the radio.
He sat listening to the latest on Kelly.
Believed to have been killed by a rogue batch of extra strong heroin, two arrests but more expected. The story cut into a quote from Chief Superintendent Landers,
"At present my family is deeply upset by what has happened and would appreciate space to allow us to grieve. Upset as I am, rest assured I will be doing all I can to ensure that anyone connected to my daughter's death will be appropriately dealt with.
Jarvey knew he featured heavily in Chief Superintendent Landers mind as he spoke the words.
The sports shop had little to choose from. After a quick flick through the rails Jarvey selected a nondescript sweatshirt and plain navy blue tracksuit bottoms, then heading to the counter to pay he stopped at the hat section grabbing a black woollen hat to replace his trademark baseball-cap. Minutes later he was back in the car.
Cindy lived on a nearby estate with her mum. She was a young girl a friend of Jarvey's had a fling with leaving her with a kid and no income. Jarvey gave her that.
Getting to the house he had a quick glance round before knocking. From the other side of the door he could hear a baby crying.
"Who is it?
"Jarv.
After a moment, the door opened and Cindy stood there in her pyjamas.
"You're early.
Pushing past he headed up the stairs,
"Yeah I gotta pick something up.
Crouching in front of a wardrobe Jarvey went through the leather holdall containing his stash. After checking the money he looked at the dull grey handgun.
As he left he looked in on Cindy and her daughter. She was sat smoking a cigarette watching the television, the little girl sat drinking from a beaker.
"See you later then.
Cindy didn't take her eyes from the screen,
"Alright.
