(Intro)
You,..
You, need to know, baby.
I'd..I'd.
Do anything,NO!
I'd die for you.
Lay down my life,
for you.
I remember February 27 1994
Tryin' to make it to the hospital, through 3 inches of snow
Something's going wrong, I can feel it but I don't know
I got a gut feelin', this isn't how I was meant to go
Three pounds, two ounces and two months premature
To the incubator, is my baby gon' make it, they aren't sure
Automatically I placed the blame onto my health
Hell, I'm the father, I should blame this on myself
Was it something I smoked, did I eat or did I drink it?
Or was I doing something without God damn thinking?
Watchin' her breath through her hose in her nose
What's this machine and what's that shit on her toes
tears fallin' down me and my wifes eyes, we can bearly see
I'm prayin' and I'm askin' why he do this to me?
You,..
You, need to know, baby.
I'd..I'd.
Do anything,NO!
I'd die for you.
Lay down my life,
for you.
March the 2nd, 1999
The year and the date, I got my little mine
I'm feelin' how my father felt and his father felt
It's like a lil me in the flesh
He got my blood and my heart in his chest
Needless to say, I love him to death
Teach him if he disrespect me, I'll still love him to death
Left to go out of town straight after he was born
Got a record deal three months later, and daddy was gone
It's like I'm tryin' to raise my baby up, over the phone
He grown up, don't know my face when he see it but know my tone
I'm up at night, thinkin', does he know who daddy is?
I'm real close to sayin' 'I'm goin' home, fuck the showbiz'
But his momma tell me, stay there and do what you do
Cause little baby Juniour wants to be just like you
Can't stop sayin' at school 'My daddy a rap star with a 10 man crew'
Just remember baby boy
I love you
I'd die for you
Lay down my life for you

This song is dedicated to my brother, the father in this song. On the night of February 27 1994 he lost his baby and his world fell apart. However, the second verse of this song forwards a few years and shows my brother did get a little baby boy :)
A baby he'd die for, care for, and love with all his heart.
I hope you enjoyed reading this

A poignant poem full of intensity describing the despair and the joy of a father, firstly at the loss of a baby and subsequently at the safe delivery of a boy five years later. A boy surrounded by love and care who will be proud of his parents in whose footsteps he'll follow.
A good effort, Pinda. Well done.

Hi Pinda,
It is so very sad, when you loose a baby, whatever
the circumstances. You told this story very well.
Thankyou for the read.
Jenny.

I'd rather someone live for me &&
pinda | October 30, 2010 - 13:44
But you'd die for someone you truly love, surely?
RachelPatricia | October 30, 2010 - 14:16
I can say hand on heart that I would, Pinda, though I can understand what Nolan's saying, too.
Beautiful, this is, and I appreciate it must've been difficult to write - you've done a great job of it and I wish your brother and his family all the health and happiness in the world. I'm sure he and his wife would be very proud and thankful for this dedication to them and their courage, well done :)

Thank you penandpaperdreams, I think we'd all die for our flesh and blood if we were given the chance. Especially if it's your own child, your own baby.

this is so full of passion pinda - that shines through and I think that's what makes this poem special for me.
ps. It might be worth going back through this - there are a couple of apostrophes missing.
