Nothing Has Changed

I'd rather be rich and unhappy than broke and miserable.
Cause nowerdays the music industry doesn't give a fuck if you're lyrical.
Now that's pitiful, so my position is pivotal,
You can hate me all you like, but you'll still follow my principle.
I inspire to start a revolution, the government's not invincible,
Fight for what you believe in and stop being so fucking invisible.
I drove through the hood, and it's still McDonald's and liquor,
Still cops chasing around after the working class nigger.
Still homeless mothers and babies on the streets during the winter.
It's clear that since Obama was elected, that nothing has really changed,
Open up the book, and it's still on the same page.
Young children in the hood being sold Cocaine, but it's really Talcum,
And then you get rappers like 50 Cent and Jay-Z wanting a new album.
Only caring about a Platinum outcome.
Rich people on vacation in the Bahamas wearing their flip-flops,
Whilst the babies on the streets are learning how to flip rocks.
It seems as if we've lost sight of what's important in life,
It seems we're all too busy living the hype,
It's time we open up and spread the word,
It's time the working class are finally heard.

Thanks for reading Sunday; I'm glad the message got through to you. Well, I used to be a member of a local record label (Urban.Bass.Records) in my area however, lost my contract due to the label not making profit and unable to keep up with running costs. This knocked me down because it was the only thing going for me at the time, and putting bread on the table for my family. I struggled to find a job because, well I’ll be honest, I’ve got a criminal record (possession of drugs and an illegal firearm). So I ended up doing voluntary work at a shelter and helping my cousin out at the youth centre (Did some hip-hop dancing classes etc). This was a long time ago though; I’m talking over ten years ago. I am now a part time DJ/rapper at a local club and it puts food on the table, so everything’s fine. My cousin is currently in talks with a record label manager, and has provided him with some of my work (This rap will most likely also get sent to him in the upcoming week or two once I’ve recorded it). I don’t post my music on websites like Myspace or Youtube because I plan on releasing it under a legit record label, if I ever get signed again. So you can see why my anger towards mainstream rappers/DJs is always growing. They’re constantly rapping bullshit about how fancy and prestigious their lives are whilst us normal people struggle. Sorry I’ve placed my burdensome past onto you, I hope I haven’t offended or worried you in anyway. I just hope writers on this site realise that rapping is my life, and I’m not just some wannabe rapper who is stuck up his own arse.

Pinda: thanks for telling me more about your situation. I know that you write from the heart- it's always been the case from what I have read here on abctales. Your work is hard-hitting and thought provoking and forces the reader to question things. I like that.

You clearly have a lot of talent in this area and i respect that you want to try to release any work under a legit record label. Good luck with that. Well done for working hard and not sitting back. I totally understand what you are saying about the mainstream rappers etc- to be honest I can't stand a lot of what their messages seem to be about (fast cars, fast women etc)- I think it's a shame that such a powerful way to express words and sentiments has got sold out to these idiots who are more interested in profit than anything else. Good on you for telling it like it is. I really wish you the best of luck with everything. Keep it up. x

I am really glad you write like you do- it's the sort of awareness you would wish a lot of other people had. You need to get a wider audience. Very powerful rap you have there. Re Obama- things don't happen that fast but the hood needs clearing up and seeing brighter days for all and one especially the kids- glad you translated about them flipping rocks- didn't know what it meant otherwise.
Thanks for the read.
Good luck with your recording
