What can I do?

from the ABC set Poems

When despair sets in,
his world grinds to a halt.
How can I lift him?
When life looks so grim,
what can I say?
Simply, to gladden his day.

Words fail me.
There is, in me, no spark.
As I lie in the dark,
hoping, just longing,
To say something,
to renew our bonding

What can I do?
To brighten his day.
Nothing springs to mind.
All seems to me, so unkind,
that I can’t raise his hopes
and see him smile,
only briefly albeit for a while.

Time will pass.
His spirit will return.
He’ll laugh and he will smile,
he’ll joke and he’ll have fun .
Darkness will have faded.
Sunlight will shine through
and finally, his life
will be mended.

Just tell him he's a very lucky man; most people only think of themselves these days
Very nice poem.
