But I cried once

from the ABC set

Shuffling onwards
Clutching our drip stands
Hydrating wishes
And imaginations with
Future years.

Sometimes in the night
I hear screams
And anxious cries
and often sighs above
So few tears

But I cried once
silently in the darkness
suffocating
my woes
into a limp hospital pillow

In the morning
I was dry cheeked
and smiling
And my secret was safe.
