Cocktails of Youth

from the ABC set 2. Metamorphosis before Thirty

Cocktails with exotic, sensual names.
Mine of light blue pills and hues of liquid dreams,
Reclining in an tranquilised haze,
Lost somewhere between the sheets of slumber.

Your face has eroded memories
The first I saw
Awakening from a ten year drunk.

A part of us from youth that still remains
Is wondering through the well-remembered days
Until the slumbering hour comes when heart's
A shade that alternates between two worlds -
A ghost inhabiting the past, yet now
Can grasp this moment like a moth
That struggles against the burning bulb
Trapped like us within a darkened space.
Well-fleshed in neither this time nor back then.
