Lets Make Today When Our Children Can Walk Tall!

No one can help me
Until not only the ones
That did this to me change
But society wakes up and
Realizes the damage its
Doing to its Young.

When you have been
Laughed at, lied to
And abused like me
For just being myself,
And lie a wake at night crying
Or shaking with fear when
Entering the gates.
That's when you can say
You understand what my
Sad, Perfect world is like
Now, thanks to bullies.

But not many can really
Take the time to want
To search through all the
Knife marks of pain
That's been inflicted on
Me, for not being thin, or
Wearing not enough make up
Or for not talking to a boy.

Its never too late to change!
We all know its wrong to judge
Yet hour by hour we pass a
Hidden glance at someone we
May not even know yet think
'Hm he could do with less
Beef round his waistline, or she could
Benefit from a face lift.

But when it enters the school ground
That's when we should really start to
Take note because the over eager nasty
Comments start there, in a cloud of
'Just being kids' Syndrome,
Because no one wants to deal.
With the dark, jealous and hurtful
World we all help
Create.

I don't often pop over to the poetry section but glad I did today. This struck a chord or two. Well done.

Just a couple of minor niggles - It(')s never (too) late to change!

I think the key thing with being bullied is that the bullied should, at some stage, search out someone they can talk to, someone they know and trust who they can talk it through with and perhaps get help from in sorting it out.
A key line in your poem struck me which was 'For just being myself'. Often, I think that the decision to just be oneself is something that society can find hard to accept. Life is of course often a case of deciding how much can I dare to be myself and how much must I put myself 'on hold' for a quiet life - that's a decision we often need to make hourly and we can change our mind on it as much as we like. There are no rules except for the rules we give ourselves.

Hi Animan, thank you for looking at my work and taking the time to comment :)

I think it is a complex issue and you have some very good points and every individual must act which ever way they want to, that will help them get through their ordeal. If people can find someone they can talk to great, but not everyone are lucky enough to have that port of call.

Hello, prettyrose (hehe, rhyme not intended), unfortunately this is very true. Glad you posted this. I didn't get bullied at my old school, people were kinda mean to me, and I've seen people getting bullied (quite a bunch of fights there, too; it's a shame, because the school and [most of] the teachers were good, it was just the kids)... But at my old school, if you didn't wear makeup or you weren't skinny enough, then you weren't cool. What I find weird is that most of the people at that school weren't even all that pretty (reffering to girls) or hot (reffering to guys), and yet they are cool. I mean there are some pretty or hot people there, but not as much as there is ugly (both on the inside and the outside; most of the good looking people were not so good on the inside either). And, as I said before, they are "cool". I'm glad I switched schools, because the people here are a lot nicer. Though it is a "prep school", as some call it(meaning there are a lot of preppy girls and guys here), they are nice. And they're actually pretty or hot. But I don't really count that; I count their personality. Thanks again for posting this. =)
