She looked at me and smiled, her head turned to me as we laid on the grass next to the pond. "Let's leave" I blurted out. I didn't think it would come out, but it did, and i meant it. She raised one eyebrow at me and sat up straight, her red hair cascading down her back. "Leave? Where would we go? How would we live? What would we do?" She smirked, assuming that i had no answers to any of those questions. I bit my lip and looked up, thinking. " We can improvise. Sure, we would be bums for awhile, but after we get jobs, we can get our own place. We can live." Ana shook her head and gave me a look that said seriously? I sighed. I knew it wasn't much of a plan, but i was desperate. I wanted- no....i NEEDED to leave. I needed to escape my parents, and i needed her every step of the way. "Shaun...when we get past these last two years of high school, then we can leave. We don't ever have to come back, but until then, we're stuck here. Comprende?" She giggled, amused with the fact that she bested me again with her "logic". She stood up and pulled her shirt down. "I gotta get home, dork. You gonna walk me?" I smiled and nodded, making my way to my feet.
I stuffed my hands into my pockets as we walked along the sidewalk, our steps synchronised. "You know, they say that when two people walk in same step, they're really close at heart." I raised my eyebrow at her and grinned. "Oh? Who says that?" Ana blushed and looked down. "I dunno..." I chuckled and grabbed her hand softly, making her blush even more. I walked her to her porch steps and hugged her for what seemed like half a second. We said our goodbyes, regretfully. I walked back to the sidewalk and stopped dead in my tracks as i heard a gunshot. I turned and ran back up the steps. Pleaseno, pleaseno, pleaseno, pleaseplease, dear god, please, no. I rammed my shoulder through and busted through the door. I ran down the hall, but i didn't have to run far. I tall, dark, lanky figure, a gun shaking in their hand. "I-I....I didn't know anyone was home, y-you gotta believe me!" I slowly let my gaze fall down to the body. I kneeled down and picked her up in my arms calmly. Water dripped onto her face...tears. I almost didn't notice i was crying. I closed her eyes with one hand and hugged her tightly, rocking back and forth. I heard the murder run out back. I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I didn't even get a chance. I let her down gently and quickly got up. I sprinted outside and quickly caught up to the sick thief. I tackled him and spun him so i could see his face. I didn't, though. I couldnt see through my tears and fists. I punch and pounded, again, and again, and again. He stopped breathing, but i didnt, so i wasnt done. I kept pounding his face in, blood splattering everywhere. It felt so good. I began to tire, my arms growing weak. Then I imagined her face. Her smile. I wasn't tired anymore. I kept hitting the dead bastard. By now, my hands were cut and bleeding, but i didn't care. I kept hittting until two arms swooped under mine and held me down. The police.
I sat in the back of the squad car, smiling. Tears welled in my eyes and cascaded down my cheeks, dripping off my satisfied smile. Looks like i was finally leaving.
