It's Just Routine

from the ABC set All you (n)ever wanted to know about me...

It's ten AM, alarm clock rings,
Reach on over, grab my things.
Cellphone, toothpicks, ring and knife,
Everyday items in my everyday life.
Turn on the laptop, check for mail,
Hope that my WiFi connection won't fail.
Say hi to some friends, check the weather online,
The forecaster says that today is just fine.
Grab my pants fold 'em, throw them on a chair,
Have a cup of warm coffee, and stare,
Out the window, at the ceiling, at a crack in the wall,
Sleepily grab the paper from the hall.
Shuffle on over, turn on the shower,
Stand in the warm stream for 'bout half an hour.
Dry myself off, finally up,
Reach for the coffee (my second cup).
Take off the robe and throw on my pants,
Shirt socks shoes, as if in a trance.
My habits, my routine, my daily grind,
A look at the clock says I'm falling behind.
Cell in belt holster, wallet in pocket,
Shit, Zune's dead, forgot to dock it.
Shove it in the charger, and ring on my finger,
Don't want to be late, no time to linger.
I grab for a toothpick, and last for the knife.
(I swear I'll be carrying that thing for life.)
Open the closet, choose a hat,
Slip my keys on my belt and give 'em a pat.
Run out the door 'bout 11:10,
Tomorrow I'll do the same thing again.
