In The Light Of The Storm

It's 7:30am and it is pouring cats and dogs. I'm sitting in a comfortable seat on a refurbished express bus and staring through the large, single pane window at the world slowly drowning outside. The bus is following a service road for the LIE and I can see terrible flooding on the road. Cars and trucks are bumper to bumper and some are submerged up to the windows. The raised service road means we won't get flooded, but the expressway is pretty much doomed at this point. After half an hour, and half a block (ridiculous isn't it?) the rain has finally stopped. The sun is trapped behing layers of cloudcover and casts an eerie glow over everything. Bluish mixed with gray and green and brown. Not a beautiful sight to behold, but undeniably captivating. Everything seems to move in slow motion and no one makes a sound.
