Slim and silky, silvery slippers,
furry-ears peep, pushing open
brown bud scales on Sallow branches,
satin catkin flowers ripen.
Those on male shrubs soon show yellow –
anther-tassles hanging, covering;
those on female pussy willow
elongate, pale-green, and grow
softly-spiky, slightly spotty,
’til when spring-time breezes blow,
fill with fluffy seeds to scatter,
falling near or fluttering further.

catkin satkin. Yeh, it does grow on you (groan). Great poem.

Thank you, Tina, yes, they are delightful.
and thanks Celticman also – I hope I don't start saying 'catkin satkin' instead of 'satin catkin' now!
So nice to see a cherry on a pussy willow now too!
