The Chasing

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

Cautious hooves pause
within morning’s
misty silence; a deer
gathering strength within
his inheritance --
others too share this habitat,
jealous for flesh.
Quickly to his feet
young buck
storms into action, crossing
ridges and sheltered
ravines in a deadly race
from three shadows,
coyotes anxious
for a taste of fresh meat.
Escaping continues across
clear-cuttings, a whisper
of trails, muddy
streams and dashing breath,
soon disappearing.
Pursuing hunters tested
by a majestic foe,
bested by this noble Prince.

Delightful.
After reading this piece I can close my eyes and visulise the scene.
