COOBER PEDY, AUSTRALIA - poem

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

From underground homes
business talk and
opal hunts
flavour conversations

tourists arriving in spite of
40 C on the surface, groups
seeking treasure, the
glittering green

not minding choking dust, nor
climbing humps of hillsides
from older mining
days, noodling for opals
always a pleasure.

I have always wished to visit Australia, and many years ago had a pen pal, Corcoran, who lived there. Isn't it a shame we don't have more money to travel these vast distances? However, my writing brings me closer to all around the world. And I consider all races as my friends. Chimo (It means friendship). RLP
