Forgive Me Jesus (for Bobby)

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

Banging on the outside door
‘cause dad won’t let her in
momma’s drunk again. Bring
me an egg sandwich she cries
and the boy does. And a cup
of coffee to chase away the vapours
she cries. And she cries.
Dear momma don’t cry.
And she pulls back on that
sandwich and drinks her coffee.

And cries out thank you Bobby.
And forgive me Jesus she shouts.
Forgive me Jesus.
Now we play checkers and
sing hillbilly songs together.

Very, very good. It's such a gift to encapsulate so much in so few words. There's a pang of recognition here for me, too.

Hi Richard,

You have managed to capture a moment in time,
between the Mother and child.

A very poignant piece of writing, that I can
understand so well.

Jenny.

Jenny, your encouragement is always so welcome. Catching that thread of meaning is the challenge of writing, which I enjoy so immensely. Merry Christmas from Esther and I.
