Pandering Man

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

I could not avoid his cyclone steps
hurling across the street
palm open for a contribution

--Anything for
a cup of coffee mister?

Watched him earlier from afar
as he neared my side of the street
doing his thing
eyes seeking butts laying
on the town sidewalk.

Unable to capture my pocketbook
he shrugged his shoulders
a grim smile saying
he’ll try again some time

spots a half used cigarette
idling by the curb, a few puffs left
time with me not all wasted.

Love it! I found this really engaging and visual, I could see the cigarette 'idling by the curb'
Brill.

This is really good and the ending is is cleverly done. :-)

The opening line is a beauty - 'cyclone steps' indeed!
