AT REST - poem

from the ABC set DANCING IN THE LIGHT - poetry for everyone

At Rest

After tumbling
backwards
across a fallen
bough I planned
to sit upon
I contemplated the
possibility of a harsh
arrest, and I did
with a forceful
thump, thankfully
only my hand felt a
sharp stab of
piercing branch.

As I lay in full stretch,
the clouds above
peeked through layers
of Autumn leaves
those trembling aspen
reflected God’s
gift to me, all within
the comfort of His
Blessing.

Prayer can come from one's lips anytime. When I fell backward on my daughter's ranch in Alberta, this wonderful, sunny day, I surely thought I would really hurt myself. I was searching for a ruffed grouse (in a nearby copse of woods) which scampered nearby and I lost my balance. Thankfully the trip backward ended well. And I said, "Thank You, Lord." RLP
