lose their childhood wearing military
fatigues, grasping an AK-47, cap on tight,
grimness in those eyes. “Killing, easy
as planting vegetables,” one said later.
In this rebel army of little men, madness is war.
“Why must you kill in the morning of your
manhood?” I ask.

Madness is war. And each of us must try to stop the carnage, not only on the battlefield, but in our own homes. Where possible, love each other. Encourage each other. Above all, try to make this a better place to live. My father, a deceased veteran, told me re: the second world war, the allies mercilessly carpet-bombed enemy cities, in return for the terrible things done in Europe. In other words, no nation is immune from the shame of wholesale killing of humankind. We must get our heads out of the muskeg and try to provide peaceful solutions, regarding any conflict. RLP
