ABC umbilical

from the ABC set Her last word

It's been a funny few days. The ABC umbilical was cut and suddenly there was nowhere for the words to go. I probably wasn't the only obsessive checking for the loading of www.abctales.com. Like the lab rat I am, I'll keep trying in the face of overwhelming odds to get my reward. Those pages loaded once, they'll load again…

Naturally, I think it’s my simple devotion to one site but I suspect the truth is wider. It made me wonder about our ( yes, I'm including you now) in our overall obsession with the internet.

Forget for a moment that overwhelming dynamic between pornography and internet usage, which, let's just say for now, screws the pixels, and consider the possibility that we have another addiction to add to all the others.

Are you 'depressed, moody, or nervous when you are off-line? Do you fear that life without the internet would be boring, empty, and joyless? Or maybe others in your life complain to you about the amount of time you spend online?'

If you could say 'often' or 'always' then you might be curious to answer the rest of the test devised by the Centre for Internet Addiction

Needless to say, the higher your score the greater your level of addiction.

But of course to answer the test you will have to go onto the internet and browse their site.

And didn't I see a blog there. Ooh, and a podcast. Must go.

Apologies for the down time - a serious server malfunction which is now, happily, fixed. I hope!

I'm happy to know it wasn't just me. Addiction? No way. It's just a healthy pastime.
