Forgotten Men

Tony woke up to the sound of the crackling fire slowly devouring logs. There stands Serius in her human form, talking with the a strange man sitting down near the warm flame. He was wearing brown clothes ripped and torn a number of times. His hair was long and stringy, like he hasn't bathed in days, with odd glowing shapes on his forearms. The veins on his arms were luminescent, and his eyes had shiny whitish grey irises.
"You are not from these times old man." Serius claims after a long silence.
"You are correct young Sancti, I was apart of the High Prolyte civilization. We lived as men and Vitai merged artificially."
"The High Prolytes used strange technology to control us, as you said. You have this technology within your body, i can plainly see, but I sense no other life but yours. What became of the Vitai that were implanted in your body?"
The strange man's slight smile fades as he explains, "Let me tell you a story. I was once like this boy you travel with, except I was about thirteen. Young and fearless, looking for deeper answers. Although I could not see your kind, I was eager to understand what Vitai were. I often found myself researching all about your kind. One morning I rose up to find no light. The world was in darkness. Electricity was failing and the sun was absent in the daytime sky. I remember walking outside into the vast darkness, it felt hot from the cinders floating in the air. The memory is abrubtly ended after that. It feels like someone stole that chuck of memory from me. The next thing I remember was waking up in a chamber. I actually thought I woke up in my own coffin, but no such luck. I found myself at the bottom of the lake, still inside this wierd chamber. My body felt strangely strong for sleeping for what I now know as countless lifetimes. From what i could tell, these enhancements were given to me by our former government to survive the cataclysm. They selected random children to be preserved for long enough to last through the destruction. Fortunately for me, the cataclysm was much shorter than they anticipated, due the size of human population. So I lived my life alone, traveling from place to place. I do not know my name. I do not know what Vitai were within me, but they are no longer here. I fear they died within that chamber to sustain my life. And these eyes I could not call mine. However I'm grateful they allow me to see your form."
The Hermit stares at Tony and notices he is awake, listening in on their conversation.
"Old man, you have lived in this era alone for so long without telling anyone your story. If this information was released to the public, im sure the church would corrupt your words and turn them into their God's. I fear for Tony, and I fear for you. The church will surely be looking for us after our escape."
"Do not worry yourself Serius, the church will not find us here, we are very far from civilization. And I have lived a long life with my dreams attained, seen and conversed with your kind, attained the knowledge your kind has. Times before the High Prolyte era, before then, and even further back. I know of all the knowledge gained by Vitai. This is too much for one man to keep within his mind."
"Tony enough eavesdropping, if you have something to say, say it."
Tony stood up out of his pathetic looking bedding and asked, "Do you really know that much?"
"I do. I regret the pursuit of knowledge that I have gone through. The price was much too steep. nocti are clever creatures, and shortened my life significantly. I suppose that reflects my karma.
"Karma? Whatever, would it be possible to teach me all you know? I could pass on the information after we destroy this corrupt government."
"Tony, one may know all that is known, but still be powerless. The only necessary knowledge is to know thyself, and thy enemy. Wisdom and experience are your mentors, not me."
"No way, if I knew everything I would be unstoppable."
"I will teach you what you must know, the reat is up to you. I have little time for work anyway. So, enough of the literal interpretation of my words. Besides, I do not know everything, no one does.

They talk of knowledge. They know nothing beyond their sight. Even Observers know so little, despite our massive control. And this hermit knows a great deal from the Vitai, I was not aware of their capacity to store information.
This man must have gathered information from some very powerful Vitai. I suspect Proxius is dabbling in the Human's business with more concentration than before. He must be controlled soon, or the experiment will be a disaster. I will not be pleased with disaster.
