Crimson in Blue

It doesn’t matter if we get fatter,
If you go bald and I get grey.
I will love you, softly shove you,
Shelter at your back, at the end of the day.

When kids are grown and we’ve paid that loan,
Let’s find new ways to make ourselves skint.
We’ll chase their laughter, smile silent after,
Take photos to touch by the phone.

The things we’ve bought, will matter not,
When we stop and look back on our life.
Worries about money, will seem quite funny,
When I am your much older wife.

It’ll matter little, when our bones are brittle,
My heart will beat velvet for you.
When we are old, against the odds bold,
My love will flow crimson in blue.

The line in the last stanza
'my heart will beat velvet for you' is a striking image and quite lovely.
