I saw you waiting

I saw you waiting by the roadside,
Wearing that duffel coat I bought,
And those little red Wellington boots shining in the wet.
Your black umbrella covering your dark brown hair.

I saw you waiting by the roadside,
As the cars sloshed through the puddles besides you,
Ruining your reflection,
But I looked straight at you,
Nothing could ruin that,

I stood on the other side of the road,
Wearing no coat,
And suede desert boots ruined by the wet,
My blonde hair exposed.

The cars sloshed through the puddles
And muffled my voice as I called
To your waiting figure.

I saw you waiting by the roadside,
And I crossed to see you,
But as I reached where you were,
You were waiting no longer,
As another figure came and took your hand and kissed your smooth, soft skin,
And I stood in the rain where you had waited,
And the rain was like my tears,
And my tears were like the rain.
