American confessions of a washed up libertine

from the ABC set Apple (haiku)

I was once a racist, bookish kid riding in an old yellow school-bus through the mountainous desert country where I grew up

And what should I say?

Although quite heterosexual, I've now and then had gay fantasies

And what should I say?

Once I upheld the works of Shakespeare and Hesse with Islamist faith

And what should I say?

I spent some time in Thailand and learned some lessons about humanity;
Luckily, I returned Alive from that deep jungle

And what should I say?

In recent years, I've slipped into a decadent and false cynicism,
losing my intuitive understanding of egalitarian progress

And what should I say?

I've been to heaven many times;
when possible, I get a window seat

And what should I say?

The rope of my sanity has more than begun to fray

And what should I say?

the super-modern symphony is out of tune;
I detest it as I do the harsh smell of cologne
floating from pretentious gentlemen's magazines

And what should I say?

This is one of my rare, frank confessions;
Often I have in fucking cowardice hidden
behind these alphabetic symbols

And what should I say?

so very little more,
having said so much before
