Possibilities
POSSIBILITIES
floating around me in the wind
like so many maple leaves
Possibilities, graceful possibilities
profitable possibilities,
ethical possibilities,
lewd possibilities,
fatal possibilities,
pathetic possibilities,
graceful possibilities
some I can easily grasp:
others, year after year elude my finger-tips
till my spirits have turned not to red
or yellow,
(the natural hues of Fall)
but to a seething, melancholy blue
For though the authoritative, TV, chess-board voices
repeat to me that my life is over,
I still see green possibilities
nonetheless, one way or the other,
I believe it fitting
(for me and for you)
to take contemplative, star-gazing moments,
To thus know that a single life
(whether lean with discipline or
with innovative ambition swollen and huge)
is but a passing note
in the insurpassable cosmic fugue
