Blue Is Beautiful

"Life is full of disappointment
yes, and I am full of life." -
John Gorka, folk songwriter

In moments of pathetic insanity,
I turn on the U.S. TV
and everybody is so confident, smooth, and happy.
And if faced with adversity,
we learn,
a real man lets rage and fire burn...
or at least get fashionably bitter and edgy

Well, it's a strange world these days,
days when if you let true beauty fly
some mornings the sun will rise blue
and you'll want to cry

But you're a tough guy:
you can hold it back
you can work harder
you can drink Glenfiddich
and watch war movies
or boxing

But, take it from me,
when you turn your spirit away
always putting on the make-up of okay-
things get damn ugly

I don't know where you're at,
reader,
but in general there is an amazing
and rewarding soulfulness in melancholy

Just like there was free elegance
in a black stripper I lately drank absinthe with-
there is raw power it's true
when we dare to let ourselves be blue
