an ode to Nancy Pelosi

Thin yet mighty,
pale yet star-bright,
gentle yet ferocious,
she carries the torch of progress
(like F.D.R. and Kennedy before her)
defends the many against the pernicious few,
and often takes the wise
though controversial view

She speaks as softly
as an attentive mother,
but crowds and legions leap
to her command

Wearing a dress and pearl necklace,
she banged her mighty gavel
against the unilateral invasion of Iraq;
To bring healthcare to the people,
she(in the moment of disarray)
steadied the shaken hand of Barack

No, she's not a perfect leader,
but she shines like a liberal sun
in this time of imperfection,
and while seeing humanity through...
she shows what power and grace
woman may attain to
