I have had enough of white,
of starched white sheets
and starched white nurses
bringing me bedpans.
Pristine white canvases
drawing paper, writing paper;
all this white inhibits my flow,
it is not for soiling
or spoiling.
Black is my colour
and night my time for inspiration
when I paint on
black canvases,
draw with black charcoal
and write
and write
to obliterate
the white.

It seems we both had 'black and white' in our minds for this I.P.;-)
An emotive poem, this; one which I find strangely haunting.

Thanks Tina and Insert. Really appreciate the feedback as always.
I wrote this one some while ago and when I saw the IP I looked it out so it was kind of the wrong way round if you see what I mean!
Thanks eds for the cherry.

Really like the line seashore 'not for soiling or spoiling' - made me think of Hughes' poem Red describing Sylvia Plath hiding from the 'bone clinic whiteness' in her love of things red. Well done Seashore. :-)

Thanks so much for your comment, Luigi.
Fatboy, I know the poem Red (Birthday Letters is a treasured posession) and even to be reminded of that one is a massive compliment. I have long been obsessed with both poets, their work and their complex relationship. Thanks for commenting.

One of my favourite endings to any poem seashore and part inspiration for my last poem 'Blue'. A collection of poetry that draws you back time and again. Your poem deserves the compliments Seashore. :-)

Just been to look at last line of Red and see where you're coming from. I must go back and re-read your Blue.
By the way I'm blushing now....
