More than I could ever expect or deserve

from the ABC set Through the square window

All the miles, all the dirty drive thorough towns
the greasy roads and soot rimed pavements
all the weeks and months and dreams of rain
and grey, grey, grey days
all the sore eyed nights, the thud of defeat
hammering, trammeling, back-beating my heart
has come to this;

A reticent sun
warming a sleeping cat
the burble of rock doves
the flick of the thrush
and somewhere so close
I can hardly bear to not go
a scattering of light
on a Seconal Ocean

Hello Shoe.
Sad and nice to read.
This reminds me of a recent long, long drive back from up North.
I was glad to return and look out at my ocean.
Kind regards

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, It gives me heart.

Thanks Poncey, I think you can spell it either way, maybe with an 'a' is the English version, so I'll change it.

- love these lines, Shirley! A poem for the sense, no doubt about that. Well done on the cherry!

This is one of those poems that I hope are of the imagination rather than of experience.

An excellent piece.
