It's loose now, and slips around,
The stone digging in to my palm,
And it catches, on clothing
and towels, and scratches my skin.
I took it off once, just for a day,
I kept thinking I'd lost it,
Nine throat closing moments of panic,
so I put it back on.
It's conspicuous there on my finger,
I should maybe put it away,
In its plush lined box, In the back of drawer,
With the marble owl you gave me
when...
It wouldn't like the dark.
Somehow it holds the light,
A pole star,
A solitaire.

This is enchanting, Shirley. And I love the title and its imagery therein. The poem itself, both poignant and beautiful.

Wow this is beautiful, Shirley! I love the title :) And these lines:
'In its plush lined box, In the back of drawer,
With the marble owl you gave me
when...'
- the ellipsis is so effective! Well done ;)

Really beautiful, I like this a lot. Love the final four lines, the contrast of light and dark, has a magical feel about it. The title is perfect, too :)

Its not tham I'm lazy, I just cannot find anything to say that hasn't already been said: pognant, beautiful, magical.
"It wouldn't like the dark." is a fantastic image, i fancy your day would be a little darker too if it were to be hidden away.
