The Green Faerie fluttered through my dream;
with such brilliance, she flew. Her diaphanous
attire glistened as scales of serpents in the tide,
as she danced, in time, to the swaying of the willow,
wooed by a skittish, westerly breeze. Even
in His garden, she showed no modesty; only a hint
of indifference. A mix – somewhere between an angel
and a nymph; her wings shone as diamonds set
in platinum, melding to become one, translucent light.
Beside the Wormwood in the glade she resides,
where Star Anise thrives with crimson clusters,
such that charmed Hippocrates, where earth and honey
nurture roots of ancient aniseed. And thus she spoke.
“Man’s life’s too short; a mere blink of an eye
on the face of eternity. Live for now – imbibe
whatever is your poison. Get high on music, love
or poetry! Perchance to watch the sunrise from a hilltop;
or bungee-jumping off a dam. The choice, my friend,
is yours, whether by some verdant bank or in a sordid,
downtown dive. Ask only of these; the lion, the deer,
the tree, the stone, the wave. All that rocks, that rolls,
that breaks, bays or sings; enquire of each and they
shall tell you that the hour of truth is here. Folk
will spin their yarns of madness. Believe them
if you’re sane enough. Yet, insanity is sweet if one
can quench a fiery thirst with a first, ambrosial sip
to make life bearable again. Then, who is madder;
you or they? And remember this. Outside ‘The Gates
of Eden’, truth does not exist. I entreat you; fill
your glass. Drink to me, and absinthe frappé!”

Thanks, Pia. I wasn't familiar with 'The Green Faerie' as absinthe is so called, before I researched this piece. Quite amazing stuff, so I understand. Never having tried any myself,
of course;-)
Glad you enjoyed.
Tina;-)

Hi Tina,
I have to say this poem is one of my favourites of
yours, it fits nicely in a book, along with your
other one of my favourites, 'The Place they once
called Camelot.'
You have written so beautifully of everything that
I treasure here in this poem. What can I say, accept
thankyou.
Peace and Happiness,
Jenny.

Hi Tina,
Kylie Minogue played the part of the green/absinthe fairy in the film "Moulin Rouge". Moving from the ridiculous to the sublime, this is such an intelligently written piece (if that does not sound pretentious.
'High on...poetry' indeed.

Hello there, Jenny. That other poem that you mentioned, as you say, would sit nicely alongside this. I shall have to think it about it;-)
So pleased you enjoyed, and thanks for your lovely comment. Have a good Sunday;-)

Hey - David, I remember that now. I saw 'Moulin Rouge' yonks ago and I'd quite forgotten.
Thanks for your more than generous comment. You have brightened up my drab Sunday. Hope you have some sunshine where you are though;-)

Yes, I can see you put a lot of work into this one Tina - particulary in terms of research but so worth it - beautiful language.

So many gorgeous images in this one Tina, I adore this image, 'her wings shone as diamonds set
in platinum, melding to become one, translucent light.' Poignant and so very beautiful :]

I'm not sure it's a good sign Tina that we both have absinthe on the mind, aren't we one step away from lighter fluid? Love the style of this and the mixture of the old and modern works a treat. Very well done. :-)
