Eventually, I knew not to ask
about the frogs – sat on lily-pads
on a scarf she’d knitted for me.
Nor to enquire as to the name
of the man with a moustache
like a walrus, on the wall,
above her fireplace...
Captive, as I’d be, of my gran
on so many occasions, with
a million stories to tell, about
buttons in a box...beads, bangles,
feathers and fandangos.
Six decades on, I sit here,
in the five o’clock light
with my grandson, victim
of the very same...except,
right this second, I’m stumped
for words – lost in his eyes,
the colour of the sea
on a blameless day, reflecting
in a jar, brim-full with things
the two of us saved, this afternoon,
from the gluttonous waves.

Such a wonderful piece Tina- I lack words I'm sorry- you are so prolific it is hard to keep up. A true treasure chest of beautiful images in all your poems.
Another one I have immensely enjoyed.
Happy New Year

Hi! tina,
Congrats; on well deserved cherries!
A superb poem, again! Love the stanza
of Nan and her beads and bangles and memories,
stories to tell.
My nan exactly the same was, and her creativity talents.
Happy New Year.
Warm weather under snow last year, and iced pavements,
and vehicles.

And a very happy new year to you, too Julie.
Yes isn't this weather such a contrast to the same time last year?
Pleased you liked this one, and many thanks for telling me..

Good morning Tina,
what a wonderful tribute to your gran, (I hope this
is about your gran.) I could also picture you with
your grandson, with him wide eyed, staring at all the
wonderful treasures you both had collected from the
waves.
Something to treasure and look back on, in years to
come.
Loved this poem, it was full of sentiment and wonder.
Jenny.

Thanks, Jenny.
Yes, it is indeed about my gran. She was a wonderful lady, and lived just long enough to hold my eldest daughter in her arms. I can still see her smile, that afternoon, to this day.
Have a wonderful New Year, Jenny, and thank you for always being such a loyal confidence booster with my writing, not only to me, but to many others on ABC;-)
