“Thou knowest all; I sit and wait
with blinded eyes and hands
that fail, till the last lifting
of the veil and the first opening
of the gate.” The True Knowledge
Oscar Wilde.
In my book, knowledge
is not measured
by a certificate, or a scroll –
a string of letters
after one’s name...
a ribbon, or a medal;
it’s baking a perfect
loaf of bread
that rises right on time –
sensing by a smell
in the air it’s going to rain
or interpreting that look
on a stranger’s face
tells you, you’ve met
somewhere along the way
and when you put
your head on the pillow
at the end of the day,
it’s the knowing, maybe
you’ve helped change
someone’s life, just
a bit for the better.

Hi Tina,
I'm totally in agreement with all these sentiments.
I love that third stanza:-
it's baking a perfect
loaf of bread
that rises right on time -
sensing by a smell
in the air it's going to rain
As you say it's the simple things that are the most
important.
Thankyou for the read.
Jenny.

Wonderful Tina- this is fantastic - I love the way you simply state all this as general knowledge- I especially like the 3rd stanza- I quite agree.

Hi Tina. Loved this. Wouldn't it be nice if this knowledge was taught in schools?

Thank you, Magic;-)
You are amazing; I know how busy you are right now, and yet you still manage to take time out from your studies to catch up on ABC. More power to you, is all I can say, and the best of luck for this week;-)

Beautiful poem but what makes this extra-special is the fact that it is so accessible. A sixty year-old (i.e. yours truly) can read this pithy verse and come away shaking his head in full agreement and then a twelve year-old, middle shool student can watch the bread rise in her adolescent mind and takes something equally as valuable away from the poem. It works at multiple levels.

Many thanks, barry;-) Your feedback highly valued as you always do seem to get to the heart of the matter in such a skilfull way.
Hope you have a good week.
