Waiting for things, that’s us,
from the day we’re born
till the day we pop our clogs;
for buses, for trains –
for the kettle to boil
or the paint to dry.
For the lift going up
or the lift going down;
for the soufflé to rise.
Speaking for myself –
right this second
I’ m waiting for the owner
of this god-forsaken dive
to call time...
You get the drift; permit
so-called friends and family
to ‘get on with their lives’, as
behind their hands
I’ve heard them whisper.
Take the wife; she
can’t wait to cash in
on the insurance...
not to mention
that bit on the side
she’s screwing
when the occasion arises.
And my brother,
the conniving old sod,
is chaffing at the bit
to test-drive
my Model ‘T’ Ford.
Just thinking about it
brings tears to my eyes.
That’s not to say
I ain’t shit-scared of dying...
although, as it so turns out,
nothing to stay here for...
not anymore.
“Hey – you over there!
Make mine a pint...
and a whisky-chaser. Oh,
and one more for the road,
if you’d be so kind.”

A wonderfully written poem, Tina. I love the tone in this piece. It makes me all bitter and grumpy as I read it out loud, which makes the poem very effective. I love the ending.
Well done.
Nathan.

Gallops along, and the little pauses...perfect,
can almost see the grumpy, bitter old sod, staring into his pint, love the model 'T' bit,:-)

And thank you, shoe. This 'performance poetry' is fun, or at least trying to write it is. So glad you liked it. The chap next door to us has a got a Model T. The first time he went out for a spin in it, it conked out a hundred yards from his house;-)

Hi there, Julie. Thank you for reading.
You ask about the Model T. In fact, it was the first mass-produced car in the whole wide world, produced by Ford in the US, starting its life in 1908. It has quite a history...longer than mine, I might add, which is quite something;-)

This was our Twitter poem of the day - it's amazing, I put it up and almost instantly there are 20 extra reads. Do encourage others to join us on Twitter at tcookabctales.

Well thank you, Tony;-)
I have to admit I have never 'twittered' as yet, but I did manage to find the site today and the reference, so shall investigate it further.
Having done so, I will certainly 'spread the word'. 'Tweet, tweet', as they say. Quite appropriate really, seeing as my other half addresses me, frequently, as 'bird-brained';-)

My sincere thanks to you, Chris.
This was a poem I started to write a few years back now, and it was only with the help of this week's IP, I managed to finally complete it. Glad you enjoyed and I trust you are feeling much better now. Judging by your poetry, you are in fine fettle:-)

Thanks Tina, well back on the road; brain back in gear but the old chassis takes time to get firing on all cylinders but not complaining and probably never will again lol XXXX

I know what ya mean, Chris. Sometimes we have to go to hell and back before we realise what we truly have. XXX
