Oranges and Lemons...

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

Soft, they fall;
tear on tear...
wall on wall –
floor on floor.

Dawn – late
to break
this morning;
a pall of smoke
hangs low
in a bruised,
August sky;

on the streets –
charred remains
of hope, blackened
dreams – twisted
aspirations.

Cars, factories,
family businesses,
shops, and homes

tell the story –
civilisation
was violated
here.

Sirens sound
a sad lament,
and a mother,
weeping –
mourns
her son

and in the name
of peace, pleads,
‘No more. Please –
no more.’
Soft, they fall;
words
on deaf ears.

I can't find words to describe how much I envy your peace here. This piece so delicately and beautifully describes what the majority feel at the moment; you've successfully painted my sorrows, with words. Well done.

Ephraim.

Thank you, so very much, Ephraim.

I was just reading your excellent poem on the same subject, as a matter of fact. As I say, being born and bred in Tottenham, and living there until I was eleven years old, makes recent events all the more horrific, and unbelievable for me.

No problem. Yes, a lot of people have been writing about London and I think they won't stop. Your heritage makes this a more personal thing for you, that shows in this brilliant piece.

I've just found another on youtube you may find stunning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js9sVr50828&feature=related , and thank you for the compliments.

Dear Tina,

I cannot begin to understand how you must be
feeling, having grown up in Tottenham. But I
haven't got a tear left in me to cry, after
watching what has been going on.

This piece of work must have been very hard for
you to write, to watch those scenes of devistation
is more than anyone can bare.

I really hope it has helped in some way to write
it down, although I really think it has left a
scar on all of us.

Take care,

Jenny.

Thanks, for that, Ephraim;-) Tina

I think you are right, there Jenny. No one can fail to have been moved by such terrible events literally unfolding before their eyes.

It just doesn't possible when I think back to how it was there when I was a child, and it's not just a case of 'rose-coloured spectacles', either. I know it's not.

All I can do, and the rest of us, is to pray that peace comes swiftly, before any more heartbreak.

Many thanks for your words.

This is stunning Tina, beautifully put. I can't understand it either.

You've put into words (beautifully I should add) what we're all feeling. There's a tragic softness to this piece and some heartbreaking images, that are unfortunately very much reality.

Delicately puts across an incredibly hard issue. A really heartfelt piece. Really good job, Silver Spun Sand.

maggy - and so another day dawns, and the images just as stark on our TV screens. Many thanks for your words.

What else can I say, barry, but a heartfelt, 'thank you'.
