Do not look for me
amongst the cold
and mossy stones,
nor in the long,
slow dirge of litanies...
nor seek me in the chill,
grey light twixt this life
and the next. Look for me,
instead, to where the sky
anoints the forehead
of the world, spills light
in prisms of hope.
Although each
and every one of us
is merely a shadow
that passes, oh, so briefly,
over the face of this earth,
I am the notes of a refrain
played on sax, that float
across some smoky,
dance-hall floor...
I am the smile, crosses
your heart every once
in a while...only
think on my name.

I don't know how you do it, Tina, to constantly come up with such lovely phrases and imagery. I particularly like this bit towards the end:
I am the notes of a refrain
played on sax, that float
across some smoky,
dance-hall floor...
I am the smile, crosses
your heart every once
in a while...only
think on my name.
...but it's all beautiful.

Reminds me of something else, slowly coming into view. Whimsical and far sighted. Wonderful.

Celticman - thanks, so very much;-)

Catching up on a bit of reading having been laid low with a virus for a week but so glad to read this - or maybe `glad' the wrong word, as it has made me feel very emotional.
A very special poem, Tina.

Oh dear, Coral, I do hope you are feeling much better now. I must admit, I did wonder if you were OK, when I didn't 'see you around';-)
Thanks so very much for reading and commenting so thoughtfully.
I shall do my best to send some extra sunshine your way;)

Brought back memories of this poem and the controversial tv ad it was used for .
Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land:
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

This is a beautiful poem, flash, and Christina Rossetti is one of my favourite poets. I think the first one of hers I ever read was 'In the Bleak Mid-Winter', which was of course set to music as a hymn or 'Christmas Carol' as it has become.
Many thanks for your inspired comment;-)
