(I.P.) "Sorry for the Wait, Sir..."

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

Name’s Rashid! How may I help?
Didn’t catch that, sir; you’re sick
of ‘Home on the Range’? I agree;
Muzak, at its worst. My apologies!
But, please, don’t take it out on me;
just a poor man, doing his job, sir.
So what did you say the problem was?
Your washing machine won’t rinse?
Maybe something’s clogging the filter;
a simple sock could cause a blockage,
you can take it from me!

Not that I own many clothes...just
the ones I stand up in, and anyway,
my ‘washing machine’ stormed out
yesterday; took my cash and credit
cards with her, no less. On top of which
I’ve only six months left to live; one
too many cigarettes, say the medics...

Say – welcome back, sir! Keeping me
hanging on – no problem; no worries
at all...except the queue’s grown longer
and longer, but I’m over the moon
you found that odd sock – a Jaeger,
grey striped one, and I’m gratified
the Bendix is fine again, which just
goes to show! Anything else I can help
you with, sir? Thank you kindly, sir;
I shall do my best and the very same
to you, sir. Have a nice day... too.

Hi Tina,

a very good conversation going here, typical of
someone trying to get help on the phone.

Thanks for the read.

Good one for the I.P.

Jenny.

I know exactly what you mean, Jenny and it is frustrating.

Sometimes though, I think we forget, or at least I do, that we are talking to an actual person, with all the same cares and concerns as us. Which is what I have tried to portray here. I can only say that by remembering this, it helps me keep my cool, sometimes anyway;-)

Thanks for reading and glad you enjoyed.

Dear Tina, at least you got to talk to someone. You have achieved more than most of us.
Talking of achievements, congratulations on the fruits. No luck with mine, I'm afraid.

Dear Luigi - how right you are;-) Actually speaking to someone is quite some achievement, and the other day when I had 'computer problems', the guy on the other end of the phone turned out to be 'my saviour'. We actually had quite a long chat over that mysterious thing we call 'the ether'.

Thanks for reading and don't forget...'never say never', as my dad used to say;-)

Have a peaceful Sunday.
