The lush of the meadow
murmurs morning prayers
to the drowsy estuary;
a cornflower dawn.
In the river – green-ribbon
wefts and weaves like a mermaid’s
curls that go with the flow.
Grass-carp...dart below –
pine for their canopy of stars
as they lance upstream –
glancing olive and bronze;
skimming the surface
by wayward aspen trees.
Above – beside a blameless
sea of blue, white horses
graze the shallows; mares’ tails
drift on by in morphing animation.
A petrel rides the thermals,
and a wood-lark circles still higher –
trills its silver song to greet the sun;
all is new-day hush
and summer-wonderful...
A pair of Trumpeter Swans
perform a flypast – splicing
the quiet of it all.

Just a wonderful picture here. I really could see myself there. A very relaxing read, so perfectly written for this time of the year. The last stanza is just a perfect ending. Well done.
Just out of curiosity, how many poems do you think you have written in your life? It's just that it seems like you never put your pen down. Good for us, keep it coming, because we love it! ;-)

Thanks, Julie, and I'm pleased you liked this one so much;-)
I just might paint a picture of my garden one day, and I shall let you know if I do.
The sky is black here too, and we have just had a cloudburst, but I mustn't grumble, as all my flowers and vegetables could do with a lot more rain.
Have a good weekend too, Julie;-)

Some really beautiful descriptions of nature, and I really love swans part, very special.
Silver Spun Sand | June 22, 2011 - 17:43
Nothing, but nothing beats the sight of a pair of swans skirting the tree-line at sunrise. It quite takes one's breath away.
Pleased you enjoyed, shoe, and many thanks for your words.
