Telling it Like it is...(I.P.)

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

Spring never ever came that year –
the year he left...Funny

but sometimes, I think I see him
across the street...

I run to catch him up – touch
his shoulder

and it’s only a stranger’s face, turns
to confront me.

Ask myself, why I keep searching –
kidding myself...

and then I feel his hand on mine,
but, oh – those scars

are still so tender; they’ll never heal.
I hear him speak my name...

feel his lips brushing mine – then
“Lean on me...” says another.

“I’ll be your rock, and always
will be; don’t you know that?

I’d move mountains for you...
Give you the moon, if you wanted.”

“He’s a ‘brick’. You’d be a fool
to let him go,” or so they tell me.

How to tell them, our daffodils, dug
that year, didn’t bloom again this spring,

and how to tell this one, I don’t need
all his bullshit...

It’s not a rock, or a brick, or the moon
I want. Just a pillow.

A real strong poem this is Tina, telling it just
how it is. I really like the way you express the
feelings towards this man.

Great take on the IP.

I love the the two-line structure here, Tina. So many beautiful lines - and a real tenderness. Well done on the cherry! :)

new Silver-Spun-Sand
many congrats; on the good poem
I have just read well explained of feelings.
Liked all of it. Especially how thought you saw the person, turn round not him. I have done that too once, days pop was alive passed by on his bike, called him not him.
Have a good week-end. /and tell us how the anniversary went, did you sit at the piano and play,
so clever to do that.

I, too, was caught up in the last two lines, the way they summed up the inchoate, elemental need. Kurt Vonnegut (i.e. please forgive me for constantly quoting other writers) once said that we don't need more LOOOOVE; what's needed is a thimble full of common decency or, as you so aptly put it, 'just a pillow' and little else.

Highhat | July 25, 2011 - 03:33

Yes that would be a super man who could be just a pillow, wouldn't he!
a great one for the IP Tina- yet another belter.
hope it is sunny where you are today.

Hi Julie! Had a lovely anniversary, thank you, and yes, I did play the piano...one of the lovely pieces from 'The Piano' by Michael Nyman, actually. 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First'...so now you know;-)

Have a good week.
