It was all so easy then.
Like that night we spent
up in the tree-house;
never before had the sky
seemed more like the sea,
rocking us to sleep.
Then, a woodlouse crept
onto your leg. I shone a torch...
cringing inside, making out
I didn’t mind. Brushed it aside;
bull-shitting you – a breeze
in them there days
and that peach-pink dawn...
the mewing of a buzzard
running rings around its mate,
and a heron, trawling
the blue; black-cloaked,
against a morning moon.

This is beautiful Tina,
Ah! childhood memories of tree-house's and adventures, you bring it all back to me with this
poem.
Thankyou for the read.
Jenny.

Love those two images in the final stanza, Tina. Especially the choice of the word 'mewing' - highly original! Well done :)

Just a beautiful little poem with such vivid description Tina - I was there and then again just for the briefest of moments. :-)

Hi there, Magic;-)
Glad you picked up on that. We have a pair that cruise in the sky over our field quite regularly, especially in the summer months, and the noise they make can best be described as 'mewing'. It is an evocative, and quite beautiful sound.
Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enoyed.

Hi, Dynamaso;-)
I have no fish left in my pond because of the heron, but one cannot fail to be in awe of the enormity and beauty of these birds. Clumsy in landing, and certainly in take-off, and the whoomph-whoomph of their wings, quite something else!
Pleased I managed to portray something of this to you. Many thanks for reading.

Many thanks, shoe. I count myself lucky that I have a garden to look out on, which is inspiration in itself.
