You, Me, Daisy and Boo

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

On the shores
of Loch Maree,
in the shadow
of the Ben,
a sandpiper
skittered
across the sand;
with pointed beak
and tawny head
it bibbed
and bobbed
as ‘swee-wee-we’
it sang.

Footprints –
stencilled
as it ran;
zigzagged
along the beach.
Etched
on my mind –
not for the tide
to swallow up,
but mine to keep;
of you, me, Daisy
and Boo,
I mused … as,
a bit like time,
it up
and flew.

Footprints –
stencilled
as it ran;
Yes, I can see that in my mind's eye. Lovely read.

Two wonderful poems in one day - Tina, I'm in awe. Very different but equally beautiful.

The title rings a bell.....`and a dog called boo' - where on earth does that come from?

Silver Spun Sand | August 30, 2011 - 20:21

Thanks, LG. Much appreciated;-)

Hi there, Coral...and Daisy and Boo were my late daughters two dogs. Totally adorable. Daisy was the saucy one, and Boo, wouldn't have said boo to a goose;-)

Pleased you enjoyed. And as to the title, there was a song once. in the early seventies, I believe, called 'Me and You and a Dog named Boo'...and I can't remember who recorded it for the life of me. You are very astute;-)

Stunning! I loved this one. I've seen those sandpipers, I've watched them zig zag.
You captured the scene perfectly....I could almost feel the sea breeze.

Silver Spun Sand | August 30, 2011 - 21:24

Many thanks, shades. Pleased you thought so;-)

Hi there, Pia. Loch Maree is in the highlands of Scotland and is very beautiful. 'Loch' meaning 'lake' and 'ben' - meaning 'mountain', in Scottish, or more precisely, Gaelic.

So there you go;-)

Thanks for reading.

Thanks dear Sand Lady for explaing all to our little Danish Pia.

Just to add I live on the SW Devon coast, close to....but that's a secret.
A clue, a town that featured on TV recently.
All beautiful and lucky I still visit family up North.

Hi there, ScoZen...shall have to put my thinking cap on;-)

I used to spend a lot of time in Scotland...and I miss its beauty these days. Writing about it, is the next best thing, I guess.

Give my regards to it, the next time you visit...and of course, to your kin.

Sand Lady;-)

Full of simple beauty.

it bibbed
and bobbed
as ‘swee-wee-we’
it sang

There's such a lovely pace to it too.

Thanks maggy, for your lovely words. More than appreciated;-)

Hi Tina,

I almost missed this one, it's so light hearted and
fun to read. I've only been to Scotland once, we
stayed at a flat in Oban and various bed and breakfasts, we were touring, I think it was in the
late 60s.

It's such a beautiful place to visit and your poem
certainly gave my memory a jog, even though it was
a long time ago.

Thankyou for a light hearted read, much enjoyed.

Jenny.

Silver Spun Sand | September 2, 2011 - 18:06

I've been to Oban too, Jenny. It rained all the time, but it was still so very beautiful.

I have visited Scotland on many occasions, but it's too far to go these days, and I really miss it. If you ever get the chance, make sure you go to a little village called Plockton, on the west coast. It's like being in the tropics, almost...with palm trees and other tropical plants...because of the its position regarding the Gulf Stream, or something like that;-)

Pleased you enjoyed this one, and thanks for your lovely comment.

Tina;-)
