I chiseled a model of you,
did you recognize yourself -
do you know who you are?
if you do then you know
the perception is real -
gentle tears I wipe away
that face staring back at me,
your figure is vulgar
you have no panache -
if I were your lover
you'd be out on your ass,
how can you say that
you're great in the sack?
if I were your lover
you'd be out with the cat,
as I turn to exit -
the mirror calls back
"Wait don't leave!"
but with a snub
I walk away,
I turn the handle
brush myself down -
faces stare as
I open the door,
mindless thoughts
flash in my mind,
what is this - can
they see my faults?
like a proud peacock
I saunter through
the bar -
never minding
mock sniggers -
best to ignore,
but what is this?
friends laugh
and giggle -
concealed secrets
at my expense,
such fondness
I felt betrayed,
a tap on my shoulder
I turned to peer -
still my audience
snigger and sneer,
suddenly pointing
down at my rear -
with Shock Horror!
realising why
I'm the butt
of their joke,
a fragment of skirt
nowhere to be seen,
for trapped in
my knickers -
after convenience
I'd been.

I've done the same thing Jenny- it is very embarrassing isn't it? Fine little poem but why be so self-destructive while looking in the mirror? You are a silly one!!

Hey, Jenny...this is amazing. I love the line structure you have used for this poem. Absolutely perfect;-) And yes...I have been there; on more than one embarrassing occasion;-) You've got me giggling now, all the way to the kitchen.
Tina;-)

Hi Pia,
thanks for reading, glad I'm not the only one that
has had this experience. It happened along time ago,
but the memory still lingers. I often talk to myself
in the mirror, not in front of others ofcourse, but
sometimes the person looking back at me, is a
stranger that I do not recognize and it feels so
strange to be in the body in the reflection, I was
just trying to relate that to the reader.
But looking back on it, was quite funny really,
and I just had to laugh at myself in that situation,
so I turned it into a joke.
Hope you are well and having a good week.
Jenny.

Wow! Tina,
I didn't know so many of us had experienced this.
I'm really glad you enjoyed, also glad I could
give you a giggle.
By the way, "Happy Birthday."
I didn't know it was your birthday, until I saw
Pia's message.
Thankyou for reading and leaving such a great
comment.

Hi Jenny,
Just back from a couple of weeks in Holland, and trying to catch up on your pieces. This one is great, it's comic, dark and realistic... marvellous.
