THE CHOSEN ONES ( PART SIXTY ONE )

from the ABC set Stories

It was evening and very quiet, almost too quiet...
like the calm before a storm. Evelyne and Meradith
had been tied to a tree, they were so tired and were relieved to be sitting down.

Jonah ordered one of his men, he could trust, to
keep an eye on the two women, while the other men
prepared the food.

Too many men had escaped Jonah, he realised he
could not trust many of them, but Gerth was his right hand man, he was also faithful to Jonah.

Gerth decided to wander over to the women. "So
pretty ladies," he whispered..."what can you do for
me tonight?" He stroked Evelyne's hair, touching
her neck and bringing her face up to his, "well!"
he said..."what can you do for me?"

Evelyne by now, was frightened...but angry, she
spat in his face. "Well...well...well! arn't we the
feisty one? you know you really should not fight me, be nice and I will save you, or don't you want
to be saved?"

Gerth just laughed and walked away, feeling really
pleased with himself.

As night drew in, Jonah and his men feasted on their catch, a great fire was lit, it was a cold...
clear night. Suddenly one of Jonah's hunters jumped
out of a tree shouting, "Jonah! many people with
wagons are coming this way."

"Let them come," he said, "they are no match for me."

Evelyne and Meradith were still tied to the tree,
they looked up to the sky. "Did you see that flash?" said Evelyne, trying to wriggle free.

"Yes I did," Meradith replied, "do you think there's a storm coming?"

"I don't think so, it's such a clear night."
Suddenly there was another flash, then another, it
was like sheet lightening...but with no sign of a
storm.

Then something strange happened, the lights stopped
flashing and stayed on. "Look up there!" said one
of Jonah's men, "what is that strange light?"

The huge body of light seemed to expand and get
bigger and bigger, it started to flash once more,
hovering over them.

Every single one of Jonah's men cowered in fear,
looking at the sky, then at one another.

Jonah by now was extremely angry, but he was also
nervous, as this was something he had never seen
before.

Hi there, Jenny. Another very atmospheric installment;-)

Just a couple of typos. First paragraph, should be 'almost too quiet' and third paragraph, should be
'too many men...'. Then, second to last paragraph, should be 'cowered in fear'.

And I wonder what those lights can be? I could hazard a guess, but will I be right?;-)

Much enjoyed, Jenny, and hope you are having a good weekend.

Tina

Thankyou for your help Tina,

how ever much I think about it, I always get it

Hopefully those lights in the sky are the cavalry arriving in the nick of time. Come on the good guys!

Hey oldpesky,

Trouble is we're getting near the end, I'm really
sad about that.

Hi Pia,

thanks for leaving a comment, trouble is it took me
three years to write this one, and I wasn't under
any pressure when I wrote it, now I'm on abc tales,
I find it hard to concentrate on writing.

But you never know, I might just be inspired, at
some point. Thankyou again for reading.

Jenny.
