THE CONTINUING CHILDRENS STORY OF A NATIVE INDIAN BOY, PART FIVE.

from the ABC set Stories

The haunting sounds of the desert wrapped themselves around Red Deer, as he crouched upon the
narrow ledge of the rock face. He was afraid to open his eyes, for fear the Eagle would return...
ready to attack. He knew his only hope was to stay
still and quiet.

His thoughts turned to his family and Little Bird,
'what would Little Bird think of him, being so
frightened? she would expect him to be brave.'

He decided to stop cowering and think of his next
plan of action. A thought crossed his mind, 'this
was what he had travelled so far to find. He realised the Blue Bird, turning into an Eagle, in
the cave, in his dream...was a message.'

He felt a sudden rush of excitement, as he realised
how close he was to the nest. He knew his presence
was fresh in the Eagles mind, but he could not let
this opportunity go by...without trying.

Feeling brave, he clambered along the narrow ridge,
trying hard not to look down, his heart was beating
fast, as he thought of the Eagle's return.

The Sun was rising high in the sky, it was becoming
very hot. Red Deer had managed to reach the nest.
Suddenly he had a plan. He found the nest was big
enough for him to climb into. Once he was inside,
he removed some of the nesting material, there was
enough to cover himself.

Once he was nestled comfortably, he knew he would
have to be very still and quiet, this would take
all his patience and courage. Now all he could do
was lay in wait.

Wonderful this, Jenny;-)

Just a couple of minor typos. Should be 'Eagle's return' and in the last but one line should be 'patience'.

As usual, you have set an enviably atmospheric tone with your wonderful story-telling, and I shall look forward to reading more.

Tina;-)

Hi maisie,

This story is completely out of my imagination. I'm
so pleased you're enjoying it.

I started writing it a year ago, but came to a full
stop, as there were other things I wanted to write.

It is very near the end, it really needs to be read
from the beginning, to understand the full story.

Anyway thankyou for your comment and reading.

Jenny.

Thankyou firstly for your help Tina, it's much
appreciated.

I'm glad that you are enjoying this story so far,
although it has taken me a long time to write, I
always like to finish a piece, otherwise it's not
complete.

It's very kind of you to leave such a nice comment.

Thankyou for reading.

Hi Pia,

I love that line as well, it kind of grabs you.
Well I said that one day I would continue the story,
just couldn't leave it where it was, not after all
the adventures Red Deer had.

Glad you are still enjoying pia. Thankyou for your
great comment and for reading.

Jenny.
