Divine Union

from the ABC set Poems

When I was young
I had a dream...
to some day marry
Prince Charming,

he would declare
his love for me,
with honeyed tones
of flattery...

we were born to
one day meet -
you would kneel
at my feet...

we'd be together
till we die -
you promised that
it was no lie -

In Wood or Forest
we would go...
I'd tell you that
I love you so,

we'd dress like
Arthur and his bride,
our Priest Merlin
would be our guide,

your suit would be
of Forest green...
my gown would be
of lemon and cream,

a circle of Ivy
I would wear...
I'd have red roses
in my long hair,

If I knew then
what I know now,
I'd like to cast
a Magic Spell...

I'd love to feel
young again in
youth when there
was no pain...

when aching joints
and wrinkles abound,
we'll always have
the love we found,

for though we are
old and grey...
our love has
lasted to this day.

Remember at my
garden gate -
you were nine
I was eight?

you picked a bunch
of flowers for me,
then I took you
home for tea...

mum made for us
a chocolate cake,
we ate too much
got tummy ache.

But now as I lay
next to you...
I am old
and so are you,

as death will call
us to our rest...
we can share one
last caress,

then when our days
have long gone -
our family left
to carry on...

the dreams that we
once came to share,
with our children
when time to spare,

will someday see
them fall in Love,
like we did under
Stars Above.

Oh, Jenny...this is lovely.

(Just two tiny typos. Should be 'honeyed tones' in the second stanza, and in the fifteenth, should be 'ate too much')

Such a romantic picture you paint with your words, and it has a good rythm and rhyming structure.

More than well done, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it;-)

Yes, Jenny, my heart was like
melting chocolate drops.
From beginning to end, just so
beautiful, word's images people you
have all managed write about.
Reminded me of the song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" words. Ah! such wonderful memories you have blended in.
I Must read again.
have a nice week-end

Beautiful, it's like watching a romantic story unfold. I also love the idea of a lemon and cream dress. I'll keep a note of that!

skinner_jennifer | August 25, 2011 - 11:57

Hi maggy,

thankyou for reading and hey do you know what? I've
always wanted a forest or wood wedding, dressed in
those colours, with a garland of ivy around my hair,
with roses intertwinded. But sadly I'm a bit to old
for all that now, still I suppose I can dream.

Again thanks for the great comment, hope you do get
to wear the dress of your dreams, when you get
married.

skinner_jennifer | August 25, 2011 - 16:45

Hi shoe,

well I didn't marry my Prince Charming, but I
certainly have lived with one for nearly fifteen
years and we are very happy.

Thankyou for reading and letting me know you
could see the magic in this one.

Lovely. Such nice thoughts, Jenny... very well expressed, and as Tina has already said, good rhythm and rhyme.

Thankyou so much for reading sue,

glad you enjoyed this poem, I tried for the rhythm
and rhyme, something I haven't been doing a lot
lately, so I'm glad it worked okay.

You have a great weekend.

Jenny.
