I Remember Then

from the ABC set Poems

I remember once upon a time, when love and peace
were devine.
When flowers sat in our hair and bells adorned us
everywhere.
We'd paint our faces just for fun and live each
day to follow the sun.
We'd sing of pixies, elves and fairies,
living off the land and eating berries,
festivals were are thing,
music, dancing and singing.
Our hair we'd grow to show the world we no,
that freaking out was the way to go.
We'd paint our vans with psychedelic shapes and
colours,
go camp out with our sisters and our brothers.
Make a fire, sing and dance round it,
then lay under the moon and stars and imagine we
see a star space ship.

I suppose to some today, those times must seem a
million miles away, but not to me, I had such fun
I'm oh so glad I was young then.
Peace, love and flowers too. ******

Hee hee

My mother always used to say i should have been born a hippy. Nearly fond memories - lol

Love it - very evocative.

skinner_jennifer | August 12, 2010 - 12:05

Hi trickymac,
So glad you enjoyed this poem.
Jenny.

Hourhouse | August 12, 2010 - 19:40

Are you going to San Francisco...
Nicely evocative - I was far too straight to enjoy the 60s properly, but I crept into the end of it. I feel much more like a hippy nowadays ;o)

Hourhouse | August 12, 2010 - 19:41

Dagnabbit - it posted twice again!

skinner_jennifer | August 13, 2010 - 08:10

Thanks for your comment Hourhouse,
I was a hippy then, also through the 70s, also the
90s and I still am. I don't know what happened
during the 80s, I drew a blank.
Jenny.

Highhat | August 13, 2010 - 16:52

your children were growing up! That's what happened in the 80's!!Queen and Europe and Greenpeace! You were still a hippy and happy! Aha- don't you think so? Not to mention Thatcher and Reagan! Oh deary me-a lot of good things happened too ;D

Hi Pia,
Yes your absolutely right, my son was born in 1982.
Spent most of that time struggling as a single
parent, actually it was where I learnt to appreciate
what I have now.
Jenny.

Highhat | August 13, 2010 - 20:07

wonderful what a difference it makes to be able to say that after all those years of struggling! It's nice to be happy with the simple life methinks ;)
pia

skinner_jennifer | August 13, 2010 - 21:35

Yes I agree the simple life now is so special. You
know I have never felt settled anywhere, all my life
I have moved, never staying in one place more than
five years, always being happy moving on and I am so
glad I did, because I know I have lived a full life.
Now I have settled down. I don't want to move
anymore. But who knows what the future holds.
Jenny.

Highhat | August 14, 2010 - 07:36

What a coincidence. I have moved a lot too and feel like settling down now. At least for quite some time. I have one more move in mind but I am not sure ;)NIce to chill out at last. We are still young, Jenny ;D

skinner_jennifer | August 14, 2010 - 10:32

Yes pia,
I totally agree, although I am getting closer to 60,
my mind tells me that I still feel like an 18 year
old, but I'm afraid my body tells me different.
Though I definitely wouldn't want to be 18 now. No I
think the gods have been good to me. I have fond
memories of amateur dramatics, belonging to acting
was such fun. On the last night of our performance,
we used to go down to the beach, have a party, then
back to our directors house to carry on the party.
I always remember Simon and Garfunkels, Bridge over
troubled water being played at the end of the evening.
Isn't it funny how little things stick in your mind.
Oh well.
Jenny.

Highhat | August 15, 2010 - 07:23

Oh yes Jenny, Like your poem it is all the fond memories that make up a full life. Of course living at the moment is very important ;D

Highhat | August 15, 2010 - 17:59

my girlfriend, who is 10 years younger, says she likes my pace- it is humane!

neew skinner_jennifer
yes, me too exactly same thought's and time.
But quite abit oled than you, but memories
good and bad, we still sing Like A Bridge Over
Troubled Water's, even now? I can think back to bits of war. And rationing marg; instead of butter.
The flower power time and hippies, then the rocker's
Times change. We have so much material things now.
Sunday school was always a must? No matter if dinner ready, big family, no food or clothes. Songs mainly
sentimental on people's lives, like Frank Sinatra sing and so on. Oh! "Give me the simple life"! song.
I could go on and on. Nobody had moeny or holidays, to become what wanted in a career then. So most children do well to day. T.V so much in a slot, that was that. No hot water, lights and so on. But community was good borrow eggs cups sugar neighbour's
then 8 of us.
must go. toodle loo
