Inland Waterways

from the ABC set Poems

As our barge chugs along
while on deck I sing my song,
a wave we gesture as we pass
to those relaxing on the grass,

the bark of dog I did hear...
while sipping on my ice cold beer,
time to ponder on people I've met
I light a candle so too reflect,

so we moor up for the night,
the bats we see...three take flight,
the gentle flit of many moths
I watch them dance the light across,

as the night is now ours
in dreams we climb up to the stars,
the night is peaceful and tranquil...
with only us two lying still.

Very dreamy Jenny - i'd love to go on a narrowboat and explore the canals, lovely book by LTC Rolt describing his journeys with his wife through the inland waterways - think it was aptly called 'Narrowboat'. Thanks for a lovely read. :-)

Thankyou so much for your kind comment Fb. I myself
have never been on a narrowboat, but like you say,
the thought of it, sounds wonderful.

I'm glad you liked the poem and its great you were
inspired by it.

I shall have to look up that book by LTC Rolt, it
sounds like an interesting read.

Much appreciate your reading and comment.

Jenny.

Absolutely beautiful, I love these lines;

'the gentle flit of many moths
I watch them dance the light across,'

I did once go boating on the Broads, and it really is sooo peaceful, just like you have described.
If you ever get the chance I would urge you to go!

you know I just might take a trip on the Broads.

Thanks for reading and a lovely comment.
